March Backpack Ministry Food of the Month --- Vegetable cups.

Libby’s is the only company we know that makes these. They are available at Walmart and Publix and may be sold in other stores as well; they may be found on the shelves with canned vegetables. There are several different types of vegetables (corn, peas, etc.). We can use any type. Please make certain the “Use By” date is after March 18. Donations may be brought to the church office, which is usually open on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday each week.

Wonder Walk for Cornerstone Family Ministries will be Saturday, March 6th. You may walk around Lake Morton between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon or walk any other place you like to walk! Our walkers are Bill Diehl, Ethel Ewing, and Nancy and Tony Michel. Let them know you are sponsoring them. You may leave your check made out to Cornerstone Family Ministries or other monies at the church. The funds are used for scholarships to the Rosa Valdez Day Care Center in Tampa.

Responding to Severe Weather - The winter storm - unofficially named Winter Storm Uri - led to winter weather alerts for 170 million people. The state of Texas has been hit particularly hard, resulting in power blackouts, loss of heat and broken pipes. As the snow and ice melts, flooding will be a significant problem. UMC and other churches are serving as warming shelters and food banks. Meanwhile, the same storm system spawned tornados in the Carolinas, destroying homes.

UMCOR, working with Conference Disaster Relief Coordinators, is providing immediate funding to assist annual conferences and will provide long-term support once the damage is fully assessed. Your help is needed. Please make a gift to UMCOR U.S. Disaster Response. The Missions Ministry Team is aware that there have been many requests recently; here is a need if it touches your heart to respond. Thank you.

All church leaders and interested members are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the district Zoom learning opportunity on March 20: INNOVATIONS 2021, “Embrace the Journey: Becoming the Beloved Community.” To register go to https://www.flumc.org/gcd-innovation-2021

East Angola COVID-19 Urgent Need! Icel Rodriguez, Conference Director of Global Missions, has informed Florida churches that the COVID-19 pandemic has struck East Angola making it take longer for students pursuing higher education to reach graduation. Financial resources for scholarships have dwindled and are insufficient to meet the needs. The students are studying theology, medicine, law, engineering, education, and other disciplines. The scholarship fund was started seven years ago with 31 Angolan students receiving scholarships; nine of them are currently enrolled. An expectation of the scholarship is that the recipient will serve two years with the United Methodist Church and support another student through higher education. The Florida Conference is addressing this need with a matching gift opportunity and will double every gift up to $30,000 received by April 31st. You may give online at http://florida-reg.brtapp.com/OnlineGiving-EastAngola and designate your donation as Higher Ed. Or give your usual way to the church, designating the gift for East Angola Higher Edu

  • If you are not feeling well, please stay home.
  • Maintain 6' physical distance (with exception of couples/families), especially when entering or exiting the courtyard.
