Today is Souper Bowl Sunday! Sadly, due to the COVID-19 pandemic our Souper Bowl Lunch will not be held in the Fellowship Hall.
However, you may participate in our “Souper Bowl Sunday Virtual Make-Your-Own-Soup- Lunch!” A Souper Bowl Sunday Cookbook was created with many of the recipes that have traditionally been included in the soup buffet on Souper Bowl Sunday and has been e-mailed. Cook a pot of your favorite soup, or try a new one, and send your donation the way you usually contribute to the church, noted for “Uniform Plus.”
This fund will provide uniforms and other clothing to students at our partner school, Jesse Keen Elementary. The suggested donation, as in previous years, is $10; however, any amount will help.
Also we’d love to have pictures of your Virtual Souper Bowl Lunch to share with the congregation. Send your pictures via e-mail or text to the church. The Missions Ministry Team thanks you for your delicious contributions!
The College Heights Stewardship letter was mailed this past week and we ask that you prayerfully consider your pledge. You may bring your pledge card to our Sunday service on February 14th , or mail or email it to the church as soon as possible. Your generosity makes it possible for College Heights United Methodist Church to do wonderful things in God’s name.
An update for the congregation: Rev. Dr. Candace Lewis, Superintendent of the Gulf Central District of the Florida Conference has arranged for two of Rev. Beth's Lakeland clergy colleagues to be "on call" should any emergency Pastoral Care concerns arise while Rev. Beth is out until February 9. I am grateful to Rev. Nicki Taylor, the pastor of United Methodist Temple in Lakeland, and Ian Campbell, Trinity UMC and Highlands UMC for agreeing to be available to us for any emergency pastoral care needs. I have left contact information for both clergy with Sharon at the church office. If the church office is closed, please feel free to contact me at either 207-446-0318 or 863-210-5026. I am sure it is a great relief and reassurance for Rev. Beth and for all of us to have the sure knowledge that help will be provided if needed.
Blessings, Elaine Nutter, SPRC Chair
February Backpack Ministry Food of the Month --- Peanut Butter
We use 15 - 18 oz. jars; name-brands and store brands are accepted. These are included in the March Spring Break food package and the summer food package in May. Please make certain the “Use By” date is beyond March 2021. Donations may be brought to the church office during office hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Thank you for helping to support this important ministry of our church.
CROP Walk is February 28. Ask a friend or relative to sponsor you. Start anytime, walk anywhere, or you can even walk alone or with your family around your home. Please use safe distancing and follow public health recommendations.
Although we cannot all walk together, our community will walk together in spirit to demonstrate that with something as simple as an afternoon walk we can end hunger. Envelopes and materials are available in the church office, and donations for Crop Walk can be dropped off at the church office on Monday, Tuesday, or Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Beneficiaries of the Lakeland CROP Hunger Walk will be Lighthouse Ministries, Talbot House, and Church World Service’s food, health, nutrition, temporary shelter, refugee, and water projects around the world.
