The Saturday Morning Study Group began Reflect, Reclaim, Rejoice: Preserving the Gift of Black Sacred Music. Four centuries ago, blacks enslaved in America created a music form that gave solace even during the most inhumane conditions. We trace the music’s history and see and experience the ways it is being kept alive, with a DVD filmed on location in Methodist churches where the oldest living African American music is still sung. This study is part of the African American Hymnal Project of the United Methodist Church. This study is written to be presented in three weekly sessions.
The January/February edition of The Upper Room is available. Call the office if you need one sent to you.
