Blessings, Rev. Beth
We will NOT have a "watch party" this Sunday. We met for the four Sundays of Advent and it was wonderful to be in the sanctuary during this season. We will take time to evaluate and discern where to go from here. Thank you to Robert Vanderslice for running the sound and video for us, to Ashlee French for serving as greeter and cleanup person, and to all who attended. Stay tuned for what is next!
NEW TAX DEDUCTIBLE GIVING FOR THIS YEAR ONLY For 2020 only, the CARES Act allows taxpayers who do not itemize deductions a one-time, abovethe-line deduction o their federal taxes of up to $300 for cash gifts, i.e. gifts made via check or credit card. Generally, people taking the standard deduction do not receive any tax benefit for their charitable contribution. Because this is an “above-the-line” deduction, a gift to the church can help reduce total federal taxable income by up to $300. The CARES Act also allows itemizers to deduct cash contributions of up to 100% of their adjusted gross income (AGI) in 2020 for federal tax purposes.
Beginning January 2, the Saturday Morning Study Group with begin Reflect, Reclaim Rejoice, Preserving the Gift of Black Sacred Music. Four centuries ago, blacks enslaved in America created a music form that gave solace even during the most inhumane conditions. We will trace the music’s history and see and experience the ways it is being kept alive, with a DVD filmed on location in Methodist churches where the oldest living African American music is still sung. This study is part of the African American Hymnal Project of the United Methodist Church. This study is written to be presented in three weekly sessions.
The January/February edition of The Upper Room is available. Call the office if you need one sent to you.
