We have volunteer opportunities within the Church and community throughout the year and many mission projects.

Some examples:

Acolytes and Chancel Assistants

Anyone, beginning at the age of ten, is eligible to be an acolyte.

Training begins with instruction in the proper procedures for lighting and extinguishing candles, and the symbolism and traditions found in those procedures.

As well as adults, high school age students may serve as chancel assistants.  Chancel Assistants help serve communion and perform other duties as requested by the minister.

Easter Fun Day

We give candy and gifts to those playing the games. We have a free hot dog lunch and free pictures with the Easter Bunny. And we have an Easter Egg Hunt.

To make this neighborhood outreach successful, we need volunteers to tend the games and activities, an Easter Bunny, a Spring Chicken, individually wrapped candy, Fellowship Hall set up and clean up, kitchen help.

We don’t need any plastic eggs.

The worship service is our gift to God as we lift up and praise God’s holy name, and is often the first time a visitor will interact with our church family. Lay worship leaders, or liturgists, play an important part in worship.

They assist the pastor in leading the congregation, typically handling the following portions of the service:

  • Greeting the congregation
  • Announcing the Hymn of Praise
  • Leading the Opening Prayer
  • Leading the Prayer for Illumination
  • Leading the responsive Psalter reading

Liturgists may also be asked to help serve Communion, or participate in special services. College Heights welcomes all persons who feel called to serve God and the congregation in this way. Training is not intense, there’s no certification exam, and schedule is flexible.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels of Polk County seeks volunteers willing to deliver hot meals to seniors in need in the Lakeland area.  Volunteers can serve a  regular route based on their availability or serve as a substitute.

Summer drivers are also needed to help replace Snowbird volunteers. Local routes operate from First Presbyterian Church.
